Socktober

As part of our ongoing commitment to community wellness and student engagement, the Newman Health & Wellness Council and Peer Mentors are once again leading our annual Socktober initiative.

Socktober is a charitable campaign focused on collecting new socks for men and women experiencing homelessness in Hamilton. With over 2,000 individuals currently without stable housingβ€”and 150 to 300 living on the streetsβ€”socks remain one of the most needed yet least donated items.

Since October 1st, our Period 1 classes have been gathering new socks that offer warmth and protection for the upcoming winter season. To encourage participation, the class that collects the most pairs will be rewarded with one of two class donut parties!

All donations will be distributed to local shelters and outreach programs, including Good Shepherd, Mission Services, and De Mazenod Door Outreach at St. Patrick’s Church.

We kindly ask families to consider sending in new men's or women's socks with their students to support this meaningful cause. Together, we can make a difference and β€œsock it” to homelessness.
