Local 18 Program - UBC

Local 18 Carpentry Program
Posted on 10/08/2025
The HWCDSB and the Local 18 UBC are excited to be partnered in the locally enhanced carpentry program. This program is running again in semester 2. It is an excellent opportunity for students to gain credits and experience a paid coop in the carpentry field.

Program Overview

Local 18 Carpentry Program is running second semester and is technically a one year program.  Students who begin this year in second semester will earn the following credits listed below at Local 18 on Stone church Road.  Then the following school year in September those students would be entering into a paid Coop with Local 18.   Its ideal for grade 12  or 12 plus students.  Grade 11 students can return in their grade 12 year and take their Math and English.  The program outline is as follows:

Semester One or Semester Two
One Grade 11 or 12 English Teacher taught Credit
One Grade 11 or 12 Math Teacher taught Credit
Two Grade11/12 Construction Teacher Taught Credits

Semester Two or Semester One in September

Four credits of Paid Coop with Local 18 Carpentry Partner

This program is a one year commitment and students who complete it in grade 11 can return in grade 12 and take on more of a leadership role in the construction class and take their grade 12 English and Math Credits.   Students who are 12 plus, MUST be in class for the Math and English and Construction even if they have  previously taken those credits.  They could use these courses to refresh their skills, upgrade and make sure they have the knowledge for this trade.

Please feel free to reach out to the coop department if you have any questions.
