At Newman, we’re committed to helping every student succeed β€” both in person and online. Our eLearning program continues to grow with innovative strategies that support engagement, accountability, and connection. From face-to-face check-ins to creative course design, our teachers and support staff are working together to make eLearning a positive and rewarding experience for all students.

🀝 Face-to-Face Check-Ins

Students are encouraged to visit their eLearning teachers in the Learning Commons throughout the day for in-person check-ins. These sessions help clarify course material, strengthen relationships, and boost student success.

πŸ’¬ Collaboration with Guidance & Student Success Teams

Our eLearning teachers are working closely with Guidance Counsellors and Student Success staff to schedule in-person meetings and support sessions. This teamwork ensures that students receive timely academic and emotional support.

πŸ“§ Proactive Communication with Parents

Teachers are keeping open lines of communication with parents through email and Prism engagement messages. When needed, students may be asked to meet in person to discuss next steps and strategies for improvement.

🧭 Grade-Level Assemblies for eLearning Expectations

A Grade 10 assembly will be held to review expectations during eLearning periods. Administrators and Civics/Careers teachers will guide students on where they should be, what they should be working on, and how to stay connected with teachers.

πŸ“ In-Person Test Rewrites

Students who do not pass an online test will have the opportunity to complete a rewrite in person with their eLearning teacher. This helps maintain academic integrity and allows teachers to provide focused feedback.

πŸ”— Streamlined Announcements & Easy Navigation

Teachers are making online learning smoother by posting announcements with direct links to important materials such as quizzes, PowerPoints, and assignments β€” helping students find everything they need quickly and easily.

🎨 Visually Engaging Course Design

Our teachers are designing courses that are visually dynamic and interactive, using images, videos, and GIFs to make learning more engaging and easier to follow.

πŸ˜„ Showing Teacher Personality

A welcoming classroom culture starts with connection! eLearning teachers are bringing their personalities into their courses with emojis, colourful text, friendly fonts, short videos, and fun weekly features like β€œFun Fact Friday.” These small touches help make online learning more enjoyable and community-focused.
